Hike to the Ice | Explore Exit Glacier Like Never Before

Challenge yourself. Conquer the ice. Experience one of Alaska’s most iconic glaciers from the inside out.

This isn’t your average glacier tour—this is real adventure!

Your day begins with convenient pick-up anywhere in Seward (hotels, cruise ship terminal, vacation rentals, etc.) or you can meet us directly at our conveniently located adventure office. After a warm welcome, we’ll get you fully outfitted with all the essential glacier gear: crampons, helmet, harness, trekking poles, and a backpack—all provided and fitted for your safety and comfort.

🧭 The Journey Begins
From our office, we’ll shuttle into Kenai Fjords National Park and hit the legendary Harding Icefield Trail, where your adventure kicks into high gear. The hike to Exit Glacier’s edge is no walk in the park—you’ll climb 1.3 miles uphill, gaining about 1,300 feet in elevation through rugged forest, and alpine terrain. This part of the tour is what earns its Strenuous rating. But don’t worry—we take it slow, set a comfortable group pace, and support you the whole way.

🌄 At the Glacier’s Edge
Once we reach the lateral moraine, it’s time to gear up. With crampons strapped on and harnesses secured, we’ll go over glacier safety protocols and teach you how to walk confidently on the ice. You’ll ascend directly onto Exit Glacier’s icy expanse, where crevasses, meltwater features, and glacial formations await exploration.

🥪 Lunch on the Ice
Depending on conditions and group pace, we’ll enjoy a scenic lunch stop right on the glacier—a surreal experience surrounded by blue ice and sweeping views.

🥾 The Return Hike
After exploring the glacier, we’ll remove our gear and hike back up to the trail’s high point, then descend the same route we came in on—soaking in sweeping views of the valley, mountain peaks, and surrounding fjords. Once back at the trailhead, we’ll return to the office for de-gearing and clean-up before transporting you to your original pickup location or anywhere else within our Seward service zone.
