Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is a land of stunning beauty where volcanoes steam, salmon run, bears forage, craggy mountains reflect in shimmering turquoise lakes, and local people and culture still depend on the land and water of their home. Solitude is found around every bend in the river and shoulder of a mountain.
Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is a place where natural processes dominate. Salmon pass through tidal estuaries on their way to spawning grounds in mountain lakes, chased by hungry seals and brown bears. Two active volcanoes – Mt. Iliamna and Mt. Redoubt – tower above the landscape. Glaciers wind their way down into valleys where the Alaska and Aleutian ranges join. Dall sheep share treacherous mountain slopes with delicate alpine wildflowers. Continuously inhabited since early prehistoric times, the Lake Clark region nevertheless remains sparsely populated by humans.
Adventuring in Lake Clark National Park
Lake Clark National Park spans across a very remote part of Alaska, and ranges from huge mountain to vast lakes and glacier valleys rarely seen by Alaskan travelers. No road access to the park means the only way in is typically by plane, sometimes by boat depending on where we’re going and where we’re starting our adventure.
