Explore the Alaskan wilderness on an exhilarating packrafting journey down the pristine Kasilof River! The Kasilof is one of the most beautiful, under-rated rivers on the Kenai Peninsula. Mainly used as a “drift” fishing river, this is an awesome river to packraft.
At the riverside your KBA guide will show you how to inflate your packraft and instructs you on the basics of paddling a packraft and boating safety. You’ll paddle around exploring the upper parts of the river learning packrafting techniques, while gently floating downstream before the current picks up speed. This will provide you time to get the feel for the packraft and offers opportunities to learn paddling techniques while taking in the breathtaking landscape.
Once everyone has paddled around for a while and feels comfortable in the packraft we break for a riverside lunch. After lunch and a little more instruction we begin the 10 mile journey down the swift Kasilof River. The river starts off nice and smooth, but with a swiftness that will quickly garner your attention and respect. The river is mostly class I-II, with possible class II+ rapids/obstacles depending on water levels.
With a full-day of packrafting we have more time to practice advanced maneuvers, ferry techniques, and eddy turns. The scenery is amazing, so you’ll get every chance to pull over and snap photos. We finish the trip with a nice, scenic river float to the take-out, followed by some hoots and hollers and high-fives,
*This trip is operated in bear country.
